Time and time again we get people asking us whether or not they need planning permission for a loft conversion.
The simple definate answer is if your not having a dormer 'No, you do not' You do however need to apply for building regulations. This does not mean that they can say no to your plans, it means you have to submit your architects plans to your local Building control office(usually done by your architect). This is to show your local Building Control Officer(BCO) that the work you are going to carrying out will meet all relevant building regulations.
With the changes to the planning regulations, now in many cases you can have a dormer without having to obtain planning permission. If your a little unsure whether or not your Dormer loft conversion requires permission, you should consult your architect(if you have contracted one) or your local council planning department.
Hope this helps!
Just recieved an enquiry from a lady who asked me a very frequently asked question!
'Is there much mess when you do the loft conversions?'
Well, we have a finely tuned loft conversion routine that enables us to complete your loft conversion in as speedy time as possible, with as little disruption to your home life as possible.
However as a loft conversion is the most largest and complex domestic project that you can do, this does mean there will be some mess at certain stages of the loft conversion - this is unavoidable. But please be reassured that our loft conversion teams always clean up and hover up after themselves at the end of each working day.
So, Yes - there is some mess, but it is created in a controlled environment, which is then cleaned up as soon as we have finished the task in hand.
Can i put a fixed staircase in without planning permission to use my loft for accesss as storage space or does it have to be retractable ladder
