I have just recieved an excellent question over the phone, which i feel will help answer alot of peoples' questions.

'Do i need a Fire escape window in my loft?'

No! you no longer need to have an emergency escape window in your loft conversion. However as you are going to install some kind of window in your loft, it can't hurt to install one anyway. Dreamlofts recommends you still install an emergency means of escape window, purely because the more options you have in the event of a fire the better!

A rare question, but still a question that needs answering!

'If i have a gable window installed in my loft - do i need planning permission?'

No, you do not need planning permission. Although you would have to have obscured glass installed(so you cant see out and no-one can see in). Also it would have to be a double glazed argon gas filled unit. This is a regulations requirement.
